DeLille Cellars Earns Fifth Wine Spectator Magazine’s
Top 100 Award With 2021 Métier Cabernet Sauvignon

When DeLille Cellars launched its approachable Métier tier of wines in 2022 on the winery’s 30th anniversary, little did it know its 2021 Métier Cabernet Sauvignon would earn a coveted placement as one of Wine Spectator magazine’s Top 100 wines of the world for 2023. The magazine released its full, Top 100 list of award winners in mid-November to subscribers, highlighting DeLille Cellars on the world stage for a fifth time since 2007.

Perched at number 66, the 91-point-scoring 2021 Métier Cabernet Sauvignon represents only one of two Washington wines to make the list and, at $30 per bottle, reflects a remarkable value when compared to its Cabernet Sauvignon list mates (whose next lowest price shows a Chilean cab at $75). While DeLille typically focuses on single-vineyard varietal bottlings, for the Métier Cabernet Sauvignon its fruit hailed from vineyards in Washington’s Candy Mountain, Wahluke Slope and Horse Heaven Hills AVAs.

Tim Fish, Wine Spectator reviewer whose beat includes Washington State, published his initial 91-point review of the 2021 Métier Cabernet Sauvignon in the magazine’s Nov. 15, 2013 edition, noting the wine “offers good energy and refined flavors of blackberry, dusky spices and black olive that build structure toward medium-grained tannins.”

In highlighting its Top 100 wines, the magazine gave a nod to DeLille founders Chris Upchurch, Jay Soloff, and brothers Greg and Charles Lill, and called DeLille “one of Washington State’s most prominent wineries.” “We have a 30-year history producing acclaimed wines that showcase our love for Washington fruit and the belief that the Columbia Valley is a world-class wine growing region.
